10th Anniversary Gala & Auction a First-Class Event

For the 400 people who attended HomeAid Northern Virginia’s 10th Annual Gala & Auction on November 5, there was no mistaking that the organization is making an enormous difference in the lives of thousands of homeless people in Northern Virginia, is capable of raising some serious money, and knows how to throw a great party!

Thanks to the generosity of those in attendance and sponsorships, HomeAid raised more than $175,000, and in addition received a matching donation from Doug and Ann Smith for all monies raised during the live “Paddle Challenge.”

“The Paddle Challenge evolved to help ensure that HomeAid in its infancy would prosper,” said Doug Smith, president of Miller & Smith. “My wife, Ann, and I have been matching the monies raised during the challenge for the last several years because we like to direct our charitable dollars toward organizations with which we’re actively involved. HomeAid is making a difference, and we can see tangible results from everything it does.”

HomeAid Northern Virginia also presented the prestigious annual Presidents’ Circle, Trade Partner of the Year and Non-Profit Care Provider Project of the Year Awards at the Gala: Doug Smith took home the annual Presidents’ Award, while John Darvish Construction was honored with the Trade Partner of the Year Award. Northern Virginia Family Service was selected as the Non-Profit Care Provider Project of the Year.

“It was a great evening that really celebrated our 10-year legacy of helping people and honoring some of the very best in our industry,” said John Monacci, HomeAid Northern Virginia’s board president, “People gained an understanding of our evolution over the last 10 years and saw how we’ve grown from our humble beginnings to today, with 65 projects completed and millions of dollars saved. Backed by record donations and a Gala committee that did an outstanding job, this was one of our very best, most dignified Gala celebrations.”
